Jeong Hae-seong as Chairman of the Power Strengthening Committee to Lead the Selection of the Next National Soccer Team Coach
As part of Hiddink"s division, 10 people, including Go Jeong-woon, Park Seong-bae, Yoon Jeong-hwan, and Park Joo-ho, who contributed to the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup semifinals, are the new power strengthening committee members.
Jeong Hae-seong, the current head of the competition committee, was appointed as the chairman of the Korea Football Association"s National Team Power Strengthening Committee, which will lead the selection process for the next soccer team head coach.
The Football Association held an executive meeting on the 20th and announced that it had decided to entrust Chairman Chung with the position of Chairman of the Power Strengthening Committee.
Chairman Chung is a person who contributed to Korea"s legend of reaching the semifinals by assisting coach Guus Hiddink as a coach at the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup.
The Strengthening Committee is an organization that is involved in the overall management of national teams at each level, including the appointment, dismissal, and renewal of leaders for the men"s and women"s national teams and national teams for each age group over 18 years old.
Chairman Chung leads the Power Strengthening Committee as the successor to former Chairman Michael Müller (Germany), who resigned along with former national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
Chairman Chung"s urgent task is to find the men"s national team head coach, which has become vacant amid the worst chaos in history.
While the Football Association dismissed former coach Klinsmann, taking responsibility for the poor performance and elimination in the semifinals of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Qatar Asian Cup, the national team will immediately participate in the 2026 North and Central America World Cup Asia 2 during the A-match period in March (18th to 26th).
The 3rd and 4th games (21st and 26th) will be played against Thailand, the most difficult opponent of the preliminary round.
If the process of appointing a new head coach does not speed up, at least an interim coach should be selected to lead the national team only in the A-match in March.
Most of the leaders mentioned as interim coaches, such as Ulsan HD coach Hong Myung-bo, Jeju United coach Kim Hak-beom, FC Seoul coach Kim Ki-dong, U-23 national team coach Hwang Sun-hong, and former Gangwon FC coach Choi Yong-soo, have teams that they are currently in charge of, so this work is also being done.

The Football Association also appointed 10 new power reinforcement committee members.
The new power reinforcement committee members include Gimpo FC coach Go Jeong-woon, Soongsil University coach Park Seong-bae, commentator Park Joo-ho, former Gwangju FC head coach Song Myeong-won, Sejong Sports Toto coach Yoon Deok-yeo, Gangwon FC coach Yoon Jeong-hwan, Mungyeong Managing Director Lee Mi-yeon, QMIT CEO Lee Sang-ki, and former Vietnam representative Lee Young-jin. National team coach Jeon Gyeong-jun is the technical committee chairman of the Professional Football League.
Chairman Jeong and 10 members will convene the first Power Enhancement Committee meeting on the morning of the 21st.
After the meeting, a press conference will be held to reveal impressions of the inauguration and national team management plans.
Chairman Chung, who played for Korea First Bank and Lucky Goldstar as a player and then as a coach on the professional stage, made his name known as a member of Hiddink"s division that reached the World Cup semifinals.
During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he served as head coach of Huh Jung-Moo and contributed to Korea"s advancement to the round of 16 of the away World Cup for the first time in history, and in 2017, he joined former coach Uli Stielike"s national team midway through and served as head coach for six months.
As a professional team coach, he directed the K-League Jeju and Jeonnam Dragons, and served as the head of the referee and competition committee of the Football Association.
Meanwhile, former Chairman Müller plans to take charge of technology-related research at the Football Association.
